  • Speakers:  Kathleen Montgomery, MSN, RN and Jan Lanier, JD, RN
  • Objective:  Discuss the importance and reasons for bylaws in an association

Overview of Collective Bargaining

  • Speaker:  Kelly Trautner, Deputy Executive Office, Labor Relations, Ohio Nurses Association
  • Objective:  Discuss the role of collective bargaining in healthcare settings.
  • 1.0 Contact Hour

Session 2: Emerging Issues (10:25AM-12:00PM):   The Legal Implications of Social Networking  (1.5 contact hours) Speaker: Kelly D. Trautner, Deputy Executive Officer, Labor Relations, Andrew Fraley, Labor Relations Specialist, Ohio Nurses Association

Objectives:

  1. Describe the history, purpose and scope of social networking.
  2. Explore the legal and employment issues related to social networking.

Afternoon Session - Cornelius Congress Conference

The purpose of this event is to enhance leadership, workplace advocacy and communication of nurses.

1:10 p.m. The Origins of the Cornelius Congress
Speaker: Mary Ellen Patton, RN
Objective: Describe the origins and purpose of the Cornelius Congress.

1:25 p.m. Cornelius Congress Address: Leadership Skills in Healthcare
Speaker: Karen Daley, PhD, MPH, RN, FAAN, President of ANA
Objective: Describe how nurses can be leaders in healthcare in the changing political
environment.

2:25 p.m. Break

2:45 p.m. Porter Lecture on Workplace Advocacy: Handle With Care
Speaker: Kim Armstrong, BSN, RNC, ANA Board of Directors
Objectives:
1. Describe the issues of musculoskeletal disorders
2. Describe the strategies to prevent back and other musculoskeletal injuries
3. Identify what ANA is doing to promote musculoskeletal health

3:55 p.m. Martyn Paper on Communication: The Future of Nursing
Speaker:  Pam Dickerson, PhD, RN-BC
Objective: Examine communication issues impacting current recommendations related
to the future of nursing.

4:55 p.m. Summary and Evaluation

5:00 p.m. Concluded

The planning committee and speakers have declared no conflict of interest.
